Spice and Easy

July 28, 2011

I used to travel the globe in my so-called glamorous job, but today I prefer flavorful travels that are culinary in nature.

My spice cabinet is stocked with these can’t-live-without essentials. Here are a few of my favorite go-to products that easily add spice and/or fireworks to vegetables, fish, meat and poultry.

Nantucket Off Shore makes sugar-free and salt-free rubs. Their tagline says they rub food the right way. I agree! They use the highest quality whole herbs and spices along with seasonings that let you travel the culinary world – right in your kitchen or at your backyard grill. In addition to using the spices as rubs, you can use them to create marinades and sauce-starters, even salad dressings.

Stonewall Kitchen products are some of my favorites. I particularly like their grilling sauces – they’re delicious. If you like fireworks, try the Habanero Mango Hot Sauce – whoa! And if you’re ever near York, Maine, stop in and visit the company store – it’s lively and gorgeous, and their cooking classes are awesome.

A brand that you may not be familiar with is My Southern Pantry. It’s a boutique culinary company owned by Virginia Willis, an Atlanta-based chef. Her pecan rub and smoked sea salt are outstanding. As a matter of fact, all of her culinary products will make your mouth water…  grits anyone?

So, how are you celebrating your independence this month? Any fireworks in your life? What about freedom – what liberating truths are you telling yourself? I want to know. Really I do!
